Most of them have been craftily coined up by people as straws on which they sometimes float their entire careers on. How many times have you listened to the news and wondered when did so many of these two word phrases acquire a life of their own… This morning, listening to the news I heard three different two-word phrases bandied about multiple times in the space of a few minutes. This must be the new norm – understanding phrases and nodding wholeheartedly to things like ‘mission accomplished’ and ‘irrational exuberance’… This also means that in addition to our closeted culture of ‘i-pod’ HENSE ‘i-shut-out’, we would have to become used to staccato two or three word catch phrases supposedly pregnant with meaning.
