Since you asked for the technique, here goes… I used a couple of freely available image manipulation tools to detect edges, hue values and contrast mappings using an original photograph. After that I started painting using the results of the image manipulation program as a starting point to develop the wrinkled face. As the painting is about seven feet in height and even longer, progress is painfully slow, but I am enjoying it.
