The American Dialect Association has released the 2007 word of the year and it is 'subprime'. The meaning inherent behind the word should have warned people from staying away from mortgages backed by suspicious looking starter/teaser interest rates. Simplistic talked about it last August here...
Explaining the word, they said that sub meant 'below par' and prime meant 'the best' and bunching them together really meant 'far below the best'...
Read the report here... (runners-up included "Facebook," "green," "Googleganger" and "waterboarding")
