Art and Perception has a guest post by me:
Art and Perception (coordinated primarily by Karl Zipser) is a site that brings together some very talented artists who write and discuss art criticism, art technique, and dialectics on other interesting artistic expressions (like photography for instance). Many of the posts tend more towards being artistic essays than regular blog-type posts... Not too sure how many noticed, but this site has remained a permanent fixture on my 'Links of Interest' for some time now. I have been a regular visitor for some time and a commenter for a little while now. Karl asked me to write a guest post about my artistic tendencies and I was happy to write one out for the site. Here is a link to the same. Hope you like it. Of course, if you are bored by my post, fret not, be sure to check out some great posts by other gifted artists on this.

PS: In addition to being an artist, Karl also has an interest in neuroscience and has a doctorate in the neural sciences from MIT.

Nice catch on that site. I like how your post is a quick recap of a lot of issues and art from the last few months, too. It was like a little review! I liked seeing how your paintings play off each other in one "showing."

I checked this out - very interesting. I knew exactly what you were trying to say and I agree. An art organization that I belong to is undergoing a transformation driven by $$$ considerations. Mission statement has been changed to one that reads as gibberish and now there is an upcoming vote to change the name of the organization. The original focus of the group has been lost, as has the camaraderie between members. I am not long there, after 17 years as a member.

Very sad.

Bioephemera,
I have been a big fan of your art and glad to see that you stoped by. I am also including a link to your site as you are on wordpress and readers on blogger may not be able to get to your site by clicking on your name...

Jafabrit,
Glad that you liked that post on A&P. I am working on the visualization and happy to note that you are looking forward to the same.

Sunflower,
Yes, this si something that really concerns me - the commercialization of art institutes. In many cases the lines between an MBA programa dn a BFA/MFA is being lost now - and this in turn leads artists to get excessively self-promotional (sometimes a good thing, but too much fo a good thing is bad)...

Yeah, I haven't figured out how to make blogger blogs show my link. Sorry. :)

As for the commercialization of MFA programs - although it has its own unique issues with artistic integrity, I'm not sure it's much worse than the commercialization of other academic programs. I know when I was teaching college science I was under a lot of pressure to get the students out as fast as possible so they could go get jobs. . . content that would not be used "on the job" was deemed completely unimportant. Education is definitely turning into a commodity and a service in our country.
